Messages appear the moment they are sent. When you post, the conversation updates live for everyone in the room, so nobody has to refresh the page or wait on a notification. You can read before you join

Anyone can open the chat and read the room without an account. Posting is what needs a free account, because every message is tied to a verified identity — that is what keeps a shared room usable. You are never asked to pay; signup is only there so your messages and profile have an owner.

Private messages, on your terms

Direct messages are controlled by your own privacy setting, not by the sender. You choose who is allowed to open a thread with you, and replying opens a conversation in both directions. Read receipts can be switched off as well.

Signup supports passkeys and two-factor authentication, so a stolen password is not the only way into an account.
